How to Change on the Type of Network in Windows 8/8.1

When you connect to a network, Windows system could registry the network as a Public or Private. Sometimes your network could be shared to public. If you want to manually make changes to the type of network, you can follow this tutorial to turn sharing on or off.

Right click the network system icon the taskbar notification area on the desktop.

Click Open Network and Sharing Center. Then you will see the type of the network that you are connected to. Click on Change advanced sharing settings in the left-hand pane if it is not private network.

Click Home or Work and enable the options as shown below:

Expand Guest or Public and check the options as shown below:


When you have done, you need to go back to Windows 8 desktop and pull out the Charm bar. Click on Settings and click Network icon.


You will see the connected network. Right click on it and choose Turn sharing on or off.


Click “Yes” in the Confirmation window if you want the network to be private network.
