How to Fix Lost Administrator Rights in Windows 8.1

Recently, many computer users emailed us and asked for help to get back their administrator rights on their Windows 8 computers. Without administrator rights, users cannot manipulate their system nor change its settings.

So, it’s very important for us to get back the administrator right if we still want to use the computer. Of course you can refresh or reinstall your computer to fix your problem, but you will waste a long time to re-install your problems and games etc. Before you resort to this solution, it’s advisable for you to try our solution to see if it can help you or not.

1. Hold Windows key + Q, then type in user account and click the result

2. When it pops up, click Manage another account

3. Click Add a new user in PC settings

4. Click Add an account

5. Click Sign in without a Microsoft account (Not recommended)

6. Click Local account

7. Fill in all information and click Next

8. Press Windows Key + Q and type cmd, for the search results, click Command Prompt. Type following command and hit Enter key:

9. Wait for a few seconds, Step 8 will result your system to restart in safe mode

10. After the reboot, click Troubleshoot option

11. Then click Advanced Options

12. Click Startup Settings

13. After that, click Restart to proceed

14. Press F4 key to start your system in safe mode

15. Hold Windows key + Q, then type in user account and click the result

16. When it pops up, click the account you just created now. Here I take “test” as the newly-created account.

17. Click Change the account type

18. Click Administrator option and click Change Account Type to proceed.

By doing so, the new account you just created has been changed to Administrator. Restart your computer and you can log in this account with full administrative rights.
