How to Remove Ribbon Interface from Windows 8/8.1 File Explorer

If you update your Windows to Windows 8/8.1 operating system, you may notice that it comes with many latest features as well as functionality. And you must have noticed that the file explorer in windows 8/8.1 has replaced the old toolbar with the Office 2013 style ribbon interface. Basically, this feature enables you to access the functions quickly and easily. However, some of you may feel it difficult to get desired options from various tabs. Due to this, some of you are not satisfied with this ribbon interface. If you are one of them, read this tutorial on how to disable the ribbon interface from windows 8/8.1.

Step 1: Open the file explorer and hit F11 to get a full screen

Step 2: right click the right top most corner and disable the “Auto hide”


Step 3: navigate to C:\Windows\System32 to search for UIRibbon.dll and right click it, then click properties.


Step 4: Choose your username and then click Advanced

Step 6: Type your user name and click “Check Names” then, click OK

Step 7: Then mark “Allow” box with the “Full control” for your account.


Step 8: rename UIRibbon.dll to UIRibbon-backup.dll

Step 9: Reboot the Windows to take it effect.
